The director of a village school in Mazandaran Province, northern Iran, forced sixth grade boys out of the school due to gender segregation regulations.
“The sixth-grade boys of this school were receiving their education from 1st to 5th grade in co-ed classes along with the girls,” an informed source said. “There were no problems in these five years, but unfortunately this year gender segregation regulations have been implemented and authorities are saying girls must be separated from the boys,” this school director says.
Of the 20 sixth grade students in this school there were 7 girls and 13 boys. However, based on the gender segregation plan the 13 boys can no longer attend the school in the new school year.
