The strike of 5,000 metal stone mine workers in Iran’s Yazd Province surpassed their 12th day of strike, protesting the privatization of this mine.
This strike started on Sunday, May 18th and according to reports received from inside Iran, the workers are concerned with the privatization of this mine in the hands of state plunderers many of the workers will be expelled from work and others will have their wages reduced significantly.
The state-run ILNA news agency cited an Iranian MP saying 71.5% of the stocks of this mine have been allocated to the Steel Retirement Trust and the Khuzestan Steel Company has taken over the remaining 28%, becoming the owner of this mine. However, the striking workers are demanding the remaining stocks be given to have both the workers’ job security be provided for and the mine to continue its work.
