Iran: 10% official rise in dairy prices

23 July 2015 – While a senior official of the dairy sellers union has said under confirmation from Iran’s Minister of Industry a 10% price increase will be imposed on many brands of dairy products, Hassan Rouhani’s government spokesman said in contradicting remarks, “No such authorization has been issued.”
However, the senior dairy official described Rouhani’s cabinet being the party to blame and said, “Considering the need for a 1,900 rial increase in the price of milk to prevent the stockbreeders from losing their profits, it would have been better for the government to pay this money as subsidies to the stockbreeders to prevent the price increase in the society because such a measure decreases the consumption of milk in the society.”
This trend started last week with a 6% increase in more than 15 very fundamental goods. These price increases are coming at a time when the Iranian people are facing escalating inflation and rising unemployment on a daily basis.
