Inmates take control over ward: Iran

Inmates of Ward 2 at the Bandar Abbas (southern Iran) Central Prison, in protest to the barbaric conditions and torture and mistreatment of the prisoners by guards, took control over the ward for 5 days.
According to a report by the HRANA (Human Rights Activists News Agency) prisoners at the Bandar Abbas Central Prison didn’t withstand the reduction of food rations, poor hygiene conditions and sudden raids by the prison guards and took control over the ward. Prisoners resisted against the brutal attacks of the prison guards, who used teargas. Eventually, prison guards and Special Forces’ units, after 5 days, entered the scene and with the widespread use of teargas attempted to enter the ward. The prisoners, after 3 hours of resistance and promises made by the warden to implement their demands, allowed the guards to enter. Yet, prison officials did not live up to their promises and instead transferred 25 prisoners to solitary confinement and savagely tortured them.
