Iran television reported that at 09:18 local time on Sunday an Iranian passenger plane belonging to Sepahan airlines crashed near Azadi Stadium close to Tehran Mehrabad international airport.
Preliminary reports indicate that at least 48 people including 8 children have been killed. The plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Tehran airport and was headed to Tabas, eastern Iran. The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
