On March 31, 1939, in a joint statement the British and French governments announced that if Hitler’s army attacks Poland, the two states will go to war with Germany in support of Poland. Fearless of the announcement, Hitler occupied Poland and divided it with Russia. Hence France and Great Britain declared war on Germany.
