 The United States Department has denied it supports the partitioning of Iraq

US state department spokesperson John Kirby on Friday denied that the US supports dividing Iraq.

“What I’ll tell you is – from the State Department is that certainly it is not our policy and not our view and not the future that we seek for Iraq. We continue to support the Iraqi Government in Baghdad under Prime Minister Abadi,” Kirby said.
“We want to [help] him as he deals with the very real challenges inside his country. And it is the sovereign government of Iraq that we support, and only that government,” Kirby added.
“Iraqis are sacrificing themselves in order to strengthen the unity of their country,” the Iraqi Prime Minister Haydar Abadi office said in a statement.
