Al-Mada Press, 12 Oct 2013 – US Ambassador in Iraq Stephen Beecroft on Saturday called on the Iraqi government to provide ‘guarantees’ to protect members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran and not attack them until their ‘final disposition’.
“We want the Iraqi government to make us certain that anyone living on Iraqi soil will be safe, and our meaning is for the Iraqi government to not attack them, especially regarding Camp Ashraf residents,” Beecroft said in an interview with al-Mada Press.
“The security of Ashraf residents must be provided until they are in Iraq and until their final disposition with the Iraqi government and international organizations,” he added.
Two senior US Congress members on September 4th had threatened Iraq to “end aid if any attack is repeated against the PMOI” and added, “Agreeing with any deal to sell weapons to Iraq” is unlikely if such an incident takes place in the future. “The Congress’ patience is ending if the Iraqi government continues to fail in protecting them,” they added.
