
A massive rally staged by opponents of the Venezuelan government in Caracas, the country’s capital, turned into major clashes between the protesters and police. Government dissidents east of the capital threw stones at the police and used tear gas in an attempt to disperse the protesters.
Supporters of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in central Caracas held a separate march.
During the past 11 days at least 10 people have been killed in street clashes between government opponents and supporters.
