Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said he would be open to the US accepting more refugees from Syria, after a photo a drowned 3-year-old Syrian boy rightfully sparked international outrage last week following more than four years of unbearable pressures on Syrian refugees.
“Sure. Absolutely,” Graham told reporters when asked whether he would back allowing more Syrian refugees to come to the United States.
But the South Carolina Republican, who is running for president, declined to specify a number he would support, saying the United States should admit “our fair share.”
“You have the refugee organizations that are overwhelmed, I think it’s in our national security interests to try to get ahead of this problem,” he added.
Graham said he would speak with Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) to see if they could reach an agreement on refugee legislation.
