The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution declaring illegal the Crimea referendum annexing this peninsula to Russia, and expressing its complete support for all of Ukraine’s territorial sovereignty.
100 countries voted in favor of this resolution, 11 against and 58 countries abstained. Although this resolution is non-binding Western countries are hoping to further emphasize Russia’s diplomatic isolation.
Ukraine has also expressed hope this vote will prevent Russia’s aggressive measures.
