Reports of scores of civilians killed in the streets as government says battle for key city nearly over

AFP, 12/13/2016 – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Monday expressed concern “over reports of atrocities against a large number of civilians” in Syria’s Aleppo amid claims that the Syrian army was massacring civilians in the streets as the city is on the brink of being retaken by President Bashar al-Assad’s forces.
Ban’s spokesman said “the secretary-general is alarmed over reports of atrocities against a large number of civilians, including women and children, in recent hours in Aleppo”.
Some 100,000 are still trapped in the battle-scarred city, according to activists.
Rebel-linked media outlets have reported that the government has executed over 180 people in previously rebel-held neighborhoods.
