NHK, March 10, 2018— US President Donald Trump has expressed hope that he will be able to reach an agreement with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on the denuclearization of the nation.

Trump on Friday tweeted, “The deal with North Korea is very much in the making and will be, if completed, a very good one for the world.”

He also wrote that the time and venue of the summit will be determined later.

Trump on Thursday accepted a proposal to meet with the North Korean leader by May. The proposal was conveyed to the president by a senior South Korean official who met Kim in Pyongyang.

US national security adviser H. R. McMaster is scheduled to speak about the planned summit at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Monday.

The Trump administration is keeping sanctions in place while maintaining its demand that the North take concrete actions toward denuclearization.
