–Al-Sumariya News, 12 December 2012 – The Chaldean National Movement on Wednesday called on the UN to replace UN Representative in Iraq Martin Kobler, accusing him of turning a blind eye to the violation of human rights and deprivation of religious minority rights, calling him the Iraqi Government’s Minister of United Nations.
In its statement, the Chaldean Movement stated “The UN Representative to Iraq, during his speech in the ceremony held by the Ministry of Human Rights on the anniversary of International Human Rights Day with the participation of PM Nouri al-Maliki and Human Rights Minister Shiya al-Soudani, turned a blind eye to the atrocities against female inmates, especially when he said that Maliki’s remarks reflect all that is on the agenda of the UN.”
The statement added, “Kobler himself admitted in his speech that Iraqi youths come to him asking for facilitation to go abroad. Questioning is the fact that why didn’t Kobler mention the execution verdicts given to thousands of innocent Iraqis?”
“Why does Kobler close his eyes in the face of Maliki and his official’s deprivation of religious minority rights while Iraq is still suffering from sectarian parties who are forcefully evicting, taking hostage and murdering Christians?”, the Chaldean statement said.
The Chaldean Movement called on the UN Secretary General “to assign another UNAMI chief instead of Martin Kobler” and added that “the Iraqi people see Kobler as the Iraqi Council of Minister’s Minister of the United Nations”.
