Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi in an interview with Qatar’s Al Watan daily said the problem with the current government in Iraq is its affiliation to Iran.
“Under Maliki’s rule, Iraq has become a dangerous source for the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and other Arab nations.
Tareq al- Hashemi stressed it is in Iran’s current interest to have Maliki in power.
With millions of unemployed and poor Iraqis across the country, Maliki has actually brought about suitable conditions for change and the Syrian revolution will be a great inspiration for the Iraqi people, he added.
The Iraqi Vice President referred to Maliki continuing to provide financial support to the Syrian regime and allowing the passing of Iranian planes from Iraq, under the flag of the United Nations.
Despite knowing the Syrian regime is involved in massacring its people and this regime’s obvious religious sectarianisms, Maliki continues to support and this is the fact on the ground, he emphasized.
This was Iran that actually supported Maliki’s candidacy, helped him through various crises and by supporting the inner alliances, eliminated any chance of a no-confidence vote against him, al- Hashemi explained. “Iran helped him win in the second round of elections and as a result he must return Iran’s favor …and his clergy is Ali Khamenei,” he added.
“Maliki has promised to allow Iranian planes transferring weapons to enter and exit Iraqi airspace, and in addition to all this he has transferred billions of dollars of expensive currency to Syria and various other countries,” the Iraqi Vice President concluded.
