Syrian rebels south of Aleppo clashed with Assad forces and were able to take complete control over the strategic area of al-Aziza, killing at least 20 of Assad’s troops in this battle. The rebels also gained access to weapons caches belonging to Assad forces in this village.
The al-Aziza village is of special geographical and military importance. This region has now fallen under rebel control, cutting off all logistical and weaponry support for Assad forces in the Khanaser region. In military terms this area was called the southern gate to Aleppo.
In other clashes in this city, the rebels were also able to destroy a base by the name of Dar al-Itam, killing at least 30 Assad forces. Paramilitary mercenaries loyal to Assad, known as the Abolfazl Abbas Brigade, were stationed in this base.
Furthermore, the rebels clashed with Assad paramilitary forces around the air intelligence center, further tightening their siege on this area.
