It’s been 4 years since the war in Syria began. At that time Syrian people hoped to be able to overthrow Bashar Assad. But nonetheless it has become a bitterness of a bloody civil war.
Since 2011 an estimated of 220,000 people have been killed. That is about one person every 10 minutes. Of course Syrian sources put the death toll much higher than that.
Millions have been forced out of their homes. The conflict has literally put out the lights all over Syria. Humanitarian group say satellite images contrasting views from 2011 and 2015 show %83 of all lights have gone out since the conflict began. As people either abandoned their homes or tried to hide from aerial attacks.
An international aid group says the UN Security Council is failing to protect Syrian civilians and the consequences are disastrous.
2014 was the bloodiest year since the fighting began.
Here are some of the grim statistics:
At least %6 of Syria’s population has either been killed, wounded or maimed. That would be over a million people.
In 2010 Syrian life expectancy was around 75 years. That has plummeted now to just over 55 years in 2014.
