White House Press Secretary Jay Carney ridiculed elections in Syria said it lacks any legitimacy inside Syria and abroad, adding it is unreal.
This is ridiculing democracy, he said to reports. Assad thinks he was elected democratically, Carney added, saying this type of referendum is preposterous for a presidential election, and for a person who has no legitimacy inside Syria and abroad. The only solution to resolve the Syria crisis is for negotiations that the opposition would agree with, not for a referendum to be held for the presidency, he continued.
