Syrian rebels have launched battles dubbed ‘Desert Storm’ aimed at liberating the al-Zamir military airport, which is Assad’s 2nd largest military airport.
If Syrian rebels gain control of this site, the balance of power in the Qalamoun area will seriously tilt in their favor.
Simultaneous with these battles, rebels near Damascus targeted the al-Tabe radar in the Qalamoun region with missiles and mortar rounds. In east Qalamoun rebels said in addition to Assad’s chemical battalion the regions between the two airports of al-Zamir and Sien have come under control. Clashes between Assad forces and rebels around the Malihe and Zamelka areas have intensified again. The Assad regime has continuously been attempting to take over this area.
