
Seizing the Baghdad-Damascus highway east of the Qalamoun region, taking over a military base and rounding up all its equipments, and downing three of Assad’s MiG fighter jets are amongst the latest achievements of Syrian rebels near Damascus, Orient TV reported.
The Free Syrian Army war room said rebel units in a series of operations east of Qalamoun were able to completely take over the “Katiba al-Jarouh” military area. They have destroyed two lines of Assad’s defensive forces in order to reach the capital, in addition to controlling their supply routes.
According to this report, the rebels in the course of this operation were able to down three Assad MiG fighter jets around the al-Zamir Airport. Furthermore, the rebels were able to gain access to this area’s weapons cache where SAM missiles were found, an asset very much needed for the rebels in this period.
