Head of the municipalities in Barcelona and Madrid, along with six other major cities in Spain announced they will be accepting refugees from Syria and other countries where war has wreaked havoc in their lands, Al Jazeera TV reported on Saturday, September 5th.
This decision came at a meeting of senior city leaders held in Barcelona. The Madrid municipality has decided to allocate a €10 million budget to provide food aid and residency for these refugees. In the meantime, parallel to these measures opposition groups have criticized the government for refusing to accept more refugees.
