Early elections in Catalonia of Spain ended with separatists parties coming out victorious on Sunday. Based on initial results a coalition seeking independence for the powerful northeastern region of Catalonia was able to gain 62 seats in the local parliament.
Parties opposing independence from Madrid gained 25 seats in the parliament. The People’s Party, currently in power in Spain, is sending 11 representatives to the Catalonian parliament.
Separatist parties are insisting on holding an independence referendum on November 9th.
