Sisi pledges ‘new Egypt’ in first parliament speech

Al Arabiya, 13 February 2016 – Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on Saturday pledged his country was heading in a new direction, promising an increase in economic growth and more foreign and domestic investments.
Sisi was giving his first speech in front of the newly convened parliament, which ended a four-year legislative hiatus.
His speech focused on securing rights for minorities including women, Copts and Egyptians living with disabilities.
This was the first time an Egyptian president gave a speech in front of the parliament since ousted president Hosni Mubarak’s November 2010 address.
