Sisi meets Yemeni President’s special envoy

CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi meets Saturday with Abdullah Mohamed al-Sayadi, special envoy of Yemeni President at the Ittihadiya presidential palace, according to a presidential statement, Cairo Post reported May 23.
Since September, political crisis in Yemen has worsened after the Iran-backed Houthis took over most of the country, forcing Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to flee the country in February.
On March 26, several Arab countries launched Saudi-led airstrikes against the Houthis after reconciliation talks brokered by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) failed.
Egypt participated in the military coalition by sending air and naval troops, particularly near Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a strategic maritime waterway for the Suez Canal as it connects between the Arab gulf and the Red Sea.
The Egypt’s National Defense Council (NDC) has decided on May 3 to extend sending Egyptian Special Task Forces to the strait, Red Sea and the Gulf region for more three months.
