The bodies of 50 dead asylum seekers were found in eastern Austria on Thursday, August 27th near the Hungary border. These bodies were all found in a truck.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, taking part in a conference in Vienna with the leaders of Balkan states, described this news as shocking.
The police found the bodies inside a truck parked on the highway in the city of Parndorf and it appears the vehicle had been parked on the spot since Wednesday, August 26th, Austrian authorities said.
German Chancellor Merkel said this incident proves there is a dire need to find a fast solution for this solution.
The truck carrying the dead bodies had a Hungarian license plate.
The Austrian Interior Minister described this incident as taking place on a dark day and called on the European Union to fairly distribute all refugees so they would not have to rely on human traffickers.
