Senior Iraqi Mufti Dr. Rafe al-Refaie in a recent interview made some remarks about the upcoming parliamentary elections in Iraq.
“We are all dissidents of the political process during this period because it was all based on sectarian and vengeful foundations. What has been delivered to the Iraqis due to this division was nothing but disaster, destruction and bloodshed, including murder, killings, arrests, prison, the spread of militants and terrorists, spread of corruption of all types, which is the result of these sectarian factions,” he said.
“We are now in the worst possible situation. It is so horrible that it is hard to imagine,” the senior Iraqi Mufti added.
“Conditions in which elections are being held are full of negatives and completely corrupt. For example, regarding Anbar that has over 1 million voters, it is expected that the vote count will take place in the Assad military base, and this base is under Maliki’s control… the conditions are so terrible that a number of Shiite leaders have warned that SWAT forces should not be anywhere near the polling stations… all of these signs show that the necessary change cannot come with just taking part in the elections,” he continued.
