INTV, 1 Nov 2013 – Iraqi MP Ahmed al-Alwani, Chairman of the Iraqi Parliament Economy Commission, issued an open-letter to US President Barack Obama coinciding with Maliki’s visit to Washington naming Iraq as another dictatorship that has become an axes directed by Iran and Russia, and a threat for peace and security in the region.
This open-letter reads in part:
“Iraqi protesters are looking at the amount of US support of Maliki with increasing concern. Support for Maliki’s continued governance establishes the return of dictatorship.
“In Iraq currently the general people are being deprived of security and this is all being planned and directed by Iran and implemented through militants in cooperation with the security apparatus of Maliki’s government. These conditions legitimize the organization of armed forces for the Sunni community to protect themselves from Iran’s militants that are forcing them into internal migration.”
