Senior Diplomats from 5+1 Resumed Talks for Third Resolution against Iran

News agencies reported on Wednesday, Dec. 12, that “senior officials from the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council plus Germany held the most specific talks yet on a third resolution during a 90-minute conference call,” the U.S. State Department said.

“It was a good, constructive phone call. We’re not there yet. But our hope … is that in the coming weeks that we could have a resolution that is voted on in the Security Council,” McCormack told reporters.

The Washington Times wrote, diplomats said the resolution would further tighten economic and travel sanctions. Some measures may be taken against a top Iranian bank (Bank Melli) and the elite Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, which Washington has labeled a supporter of terrorism, they said.
