Sadr faction: No talks if Maliki insists on premiership

Asharqia TV – June 5, 2010 – The Sadrist faction formally informed the State of Law Alliance if Maliki continues to insist on his candidacy for the premiership, there will be no negotiations.

A Sadrist delegation met with former Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari of the National Alliance on Thursday, Asharqia reported. Sadrists requested Jaafari to write a letter to the State of Law bloc underscoring that Nouri Maliki should step down from the candidacy to retain the premiership as the condition of continued talks. Otherwise, negotiations will formally be halted, Asharqia added.

According to informed sources, members of the Sadrist faction told Ibrahim Jaafari they can no longer tolerate hearing repetitious remarks from Nouri Maliki’s representatives regarding the ‘main obstacle’, i.e. the premiership and the Sadrists are only willing to negotiate on new issues.
