United Nations Security Council members held another meeting on the Syrian crisis, during which some countries attempted to provide humanitarian aid to the Syrian people, while Russia and China – always supporting the Bashar Assad regime – are stonewalling such actions, Al Arabiya TV reported.
The representatives of Moscow and Beijing emphasized the Assad regime must not be placed under economic sanctions because if this case is to be evaluated under the framework of the Chapter 7 of the UN Charter the Assad regime will be found guilty and in future actions they can place more pressure, even military, on Assad.
This plan states humanitarian aid will be entered into Syria through a number of border points without agreement from the Assad regime. If this plan is to go through it needs the support of all UNSC members.
If supporting states are able to advance this project, humanitarian aid will be provided directly to all accessible cities. If the Assad regime seeks to block these measures in any way, it will be held accountable in the UN Security Council.
This plan must also gain the agreement of the UN Secretary-General to call on neighboring countries to open their borders on UN workers and send the aid to the refugees.
According to the latest UN evaluations over 10 million people in Syria need aid while half of these people are in mountainous regions.
