
BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) June 23, 2016 — Romanian authorities say five people have died in a heatwave that has swept the country in recent days, with reports of others who have fallen into comas.
A spokesman for emergency services in the northeast county of Vaslui, Dan Ungureanu, said three men succumbed Thursday afternoon to the intense heat while they were working. One was a 74-year-old man who collapsed while working in a field in temperatures that reached 35 C (95 F).
In the northeastern city of Iasi, a spokesman for the ambulance service, Nicolai Pralea, said two men died there.
Forecasters say the high temperatures will continue until Saturday in some parts of Romania.
