Following his trip to New York, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas arrived at a grand gathering in Ramallah, delivering a speech saying to his people, “Now, we have a country.”
To the Palestinian people who joined him to celebrate this victory, Mahmoud Abbas said, “November 29th, 2012 became a turning point in the history of our national resistance.”
Palestinian Authority President referred to the firm vote for the country of Palestine in the UN General Assembly, adding we are not alone because God is with us, the world and history is with, and the future is ours.

He emphasized Jerusalem will always be the capital of Palestine and the recognition of the state of Palestine in the UNGA has changed the conditions on the ground.
President Abbas reiterated despite the pressure imposed by a number of countries on the Palestinian Authority to back down from its legal rights, and also measures to water down the resolution text, the Palestinian Authority stood firm against these efforts. Abbas added if we sought to consider these threats, we would have never gone to New York.
“This is the only guaranteed path to victory,” President Abbas said in emphasizing the necessity of unity and reconciliation among Palestinians.

The crowd at the celebration responded to Mahmoud Abbas’ speech chanting, “The people want an end to divides.”
In his return trip from New York, the Palestinian Authority President made a stop in Amman and met with the Jordanian King.
