The British Foreign Secretary claims a new initiative is needed as the divided city has seen bitter fighting between the Syrian regime and rebel groups.
Last week a missile attack struck a hospital in the city near the Turkey border as the ceasefire signed in February hangs in the balance.

Violence in Aleppo has been raging in the city for the past ten days.

During his visit to Mexico City, Hammond said: “There is a need for a new initiative in the Syria dialogue to keep it alive, the Syrian moderate opposition is finding it increasingly difficult to justify their participation in a political process.”

Hammond said he hoped for progress in coming days as Russia and the United States broker meetings on Syria.
He said: “I expect there to be further international meetings in the next week or so.”
