
NATO leaders agreed Thursday to endorse a United States missile defense system based in Europe in response to threats from Iran, news agencies reported from Bucharest, Romania on April 4.
According to this agreement which was reached in the NATO summit in Bucharest, the Washington proposal to expand the missile defense system in Eastern Europe (former Soviet bloc states) was approved. The plan means the equipment for the defensive shield will be mounted in the two countries of Poland and Czech Republic for confronting Iranian regime’s missile threat. The equipments are going to be mainly radar and warning systems.
The Fox news reported, the United States and Europe after months of debates by President Bush, about what was called by the White House important defensive line against possible Iranian regime’s attack, finally reached to an agreement.
It is an important progress for the 26 member NATO alliance to fully back the controversial Europe Missile-Shield defense plan. The Shield is planed to safeguard the European countries from a possible missile attack lunched from Iran.
