Muhammed Mesbah al-Wa’eli, the governor of Basra, declared, “Most of the militias in Basra have escaped to Iran”, reported al-Rafedain TV.

He added: “After cleansing the province from armed elements, the security situation in Basra is under full control and the coming elections will be held in a quiet situation.”
