The Iraq Watch organization issued a statement on Martin Kobler’s recent remarks on International Human Rights Day.
“While the Iraqi society condemns the immoral violation of Iraqi women’s rights in the two ministries of Interior and Defense of Maliki’s government, unfortunately on International Human Rights Day, Martin Kobler stabbed the Iraqi people from the back and did not rise to defend their rights,” the statement reads in part.
“While the crimes of Maliki’s government continue and while violation of women’s right has inflicted negative impacts due to the Arabic and Islamic customs and values in defense of women’s dignity, these disgusting remarks by Kobler, saying human rights is important to Maliki, is a disgrace for the United Nations,” the statement adds.
“Therefore, we call on the United Nations Secretary-General to replace his Special Representative in Iraq with another individual that will at least respect human rights.”
