Local citizen’s tip leads IA to large cache in Sadr City

Multi-National Corps – Iraq, 16 September 2008 – Iraqi Army soldiers and Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers continued to take weapons off the streets of Baghdad
The munitions included 20 multi-array explosively formed penetrators of various sizes, a shape charge, a machine gun, a Mauser rifle, two Dragonov sniper rifles, 18 Iranian manufactured RPG war heads and two RPG launchers, two hand grenades, a hand grenade and an Iranian 81 mm high explosive mortar round.

Also a local citizen’s tip provided information that led Iraqi Army soldiers to a substantial munitions cache in the Sadr City district of Baghdad Sep. 13.

The munitions seized included 32 copper plates, 20 pounds of M-112 Iranian-manufactured C-4 plastic explosives, 200 pounds of ball bearings, 31 retaining rings, eight PVC casings used for manufacturing explosively formed penetrators, five hand grenades, 100 meters of firing wire, and a large array of bomb-triggering devices, to include electric blasting caps, passive infrared triggering devices, digital circuit boards, more than 70 rechargeable batteries and various additional materials.
