Lebanese government under siege of workers, syndicates strikes and opposition attacks for overthrow

It appears the Lebanese government is under siege, surrounded by the opposition with the intention to topple its rule on the issue of the assassination of internal intelligence chief General Wissam Al Hassan, similar attempts in the past and the country’s security mayhem, Al Sharq Al-Awsat daily reported.
Last Thursday various syndicates went on strike, literally crippling the country and closing down nearly all public institutions, offices and schools.
“Following the assassination of General Wissam Al Hassan and efforts made to carry out other assassinations, we can no longer act according to classic methods regarding the government. We cannot negotiate on the country’s security,” said Lebanese MP Antoine Zahra from the ‘Lebanese Forces’ faction.
“The only solution is for the cabinet to resign and a political overview to take place to return hope to the normal political atmosphere in Lebanon,” he added.
“How can we trust the words of this government while its members are involved in the Syrian issue and assassinations in Lebanon?” Zahra asked.
