Sheikh Muhammad Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister, called the Iranian request for membership in the UN Security Council strange and nonsense.
In a press conference after his return from the NAM meeting in Tehran, he said: We told the Iranian regime’s authorities that their request for non-permanent membership in the Security Council is a strange position; how come a regime which is under punishment according to Chapter 7 of the UN charter could be present in the Security Council at the same time?
The Kuwaiti FM added: We recommended Iran to try to get out of chapter 7 of the UN charter and its punishments and to respect the world’s structure and international law. If a country doesn’t abide by these laws, how could it compel others to implement it?
