NHK, April 2, 2018— North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has praised a performance by South Korean musicians in Pyongyang.
A South Korean troupe presented a concert called “Spring Comes” on Sunday. The group includes veteran pop singer Cho Yong-pil and a member of the idol group Girls’ Generation.
North Korea’s ruling party newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, gave the event prominent coverage on the front page of its Monday edition.
The paper says Kim attended the concert with his wife, Ri Sol Ju, and his younger sister, Kim Yo Jong. It carries a picture of him with the South Korean musicians.
The paper says Kim told them that despite his busy political schedule in early April, he chose to come to Sunday’s concert no matter how late he might arrive. It says Kim expressed his thanks to the musicians.
The paper also reports that Kim said he was moved to see the North Korean audience respond enthusiastically to the South Korean pop stars.
South Korean reporters say Kim proposed holding the next one in Seoul under the title “Autumn Comes” this fall. The South Korean group will give a joint performance Tuesday with North Korean musicians.
The two Koreas will have a historic summit between Kim and President Moon Jae-in on April 27th.
