The United States, United Kingdom and France all described the referendum held in eastern Ukraine by the Russian-linked separatists as illegal. These separatists in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine claimed 89% of the voters on Sunday voted for autonomy of this region and less than 75% took part in the referendum.
Kiev has described this farce polling as ridiculous and criminal.
