The Islamic State is the prime suspect for the bombing in the Turkish capital that killed almost 100 people on Saturday, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on October 26, 2015.
No group has said it carried out the attack, but the government believes that two male suicide bombers caused the explosions.
“Looking at how the incident took place, we are probing Daesh as our first priority”, Mr. Davutoglu said, using the Arabic acronym for ISIL. “That name points to an organisation”, he said.
They are also examining the theory that the missing elder brother of the Suruc suicide bomber Abdurrahman Alagoz could have carried out one of the suicide attacks, it added.
The Turkish leader rejected accusations that Turkey was being drawn into the crisis in Syria saying: “These attacks won’t turn Turkey into a Syria”. “This is an attack directed at our democracy and at our people as a whole”, Davutoglu told NTV.
Hundreds of people were holding a rally for peace Saturday when two explosions left carnage on a city street.
The prime minister said that investigations were also underway regarding any security failures and that those responsible would be dealt with.
