Iraq’s Ayatollah Sistani did not meet with Iranian regime ambassador

NCRI, 30 May 2011 – The Shiite cleric Ayatollah Ali Sistani has not met with the Iranian regime’s ambassador to Iraq during the latter’s visit to Najaf, according to state-run Iraqi TV al-Iraqiya.
The TV said it is not clear why Mr. Sistani did not meet with Hassan Danaifar.
 
The TV added, “A series of security and economic issues were discussed by the Iranian ambassador in Iraq with religious leaders, but no meeting took place with Ayatollah Ali Sistani.”
The report also highlighted protests by Najaf’s religious leaders against the Iranian regime’s attempts to harm Iraqi fishermen, saying, “Ayatollah Bashir al-Najafi has called on the Iranian government to free Iraqi fishermen.”
