Al Jazeera TV, 26 Jan 2013 – The Iraqiya slate holds Prime Minister Nouri Maliki and the National Alliance, to which Maliki is affiliated to, responsible for the murder of protesters in Friday’s demonstration in Fallujah. The Iraqiya Coalition called on the National Alliance to replace Maliki, pull Army and federal police forces out of cities, and station local police instead.
This slate called on international organization, the Arab world, the Organization of the Islamic Conference and the United Nations to intervene to establish peace in Iraq.
The Iraqiya slate position was announced hours after the murder of at least 7 protesters and 45 being wounded when soldiers opened fire on demonstrators in Fallujah near the protest square east of the city. Witnesses said soldiers prevented the demonstrators from entering protest square to take part in the unity prayers, protests and demonstrations against Maliki’s policies. Following this incident local officials imposed a curfew and closed all entrances to the city after Army forces retreated from Fallujah.
