Iraqiya bloc leader Dr. Ayad Allawi met with EU ambassadors in Baghdad discussing an increase in tension in Iraq, and its consequences in the country and the region as a whole. Maliki’s 100-day deadline, legal merits and the necessity of speeding the approval of a number of laws were addressed in this session.
Allwai made it clear if the current government refuses to respond to the people’s demands, early elections might be the possible solution. Allawi also emphasized on the importance of encouraging the citizens’ peaceful demonstrations and presenting serious answers to their legitimate demands.
The subject of the PMOI and the necessity of creating conciliation on correct grounds between Baghdad and the opposition PMOI were looked into in this dialogue for the Ashraf dossier to reach a conclusion with UN cooperation. Also, the necessity of conciliation between Baghdad and Tehran based on principles was also discussed.
In the end of this meeting, the parties stressed on the necessity of developing Iraq’s relations with NATO and strengthening economic and cultural ties between Iraq and EU countries.
