
Salahuddin meeting with participation of political fractions’ heads and Iraq’s parliament speaker
While Maliki’s 15-day grace period for implementing Erbil’s political agreements has ended, Iraq’s political developments have reached a new stage.
The 15-day grace period to Maliki was determined in a meeting between five Iraqi political leaders, the president and the parliament speaker and was issued through a letter by al-Sadr to National Unity fraction. The letter indicted that either Maliki implements the Erbil agreement or he will be faced by vote of no confidence and will be ousted through the parliament.
At the end of this grace period, in a meeting on May 19, 2012, that was held in the headquarter of Kurdistan regional government in Salahuddin, Dr. Ayad Allawi, al-Iraqiya leader; Osama al-Nujaifi, Iraqi parliament speaker, Massoud Barzani, head of Kurdistan region; Barham Saleh, deputy secretary general of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan headed by Jalal Talibani and a number of other Iraqi political figures discussed the latest developments of Iraq’s political crisis and stressed on the necessity of implementing the Erbil agreements.
In its report, Asharqiya TV stated: the head of Kurdistan region Massoud Barzani in Salahuddin summer camp with the leader of al-Iraqiya Ayad Allawi and the parliament spokesman Osama al-Nujaifi and his delegation with the presence of Nouri Shavis, deputy prime minister and Barham Saleh, deputy secretary general of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan formed a consulting meeting to discuss the crisis.
The statement of head of the Kurdistan region says: in the consulting meeting in Salahuddin, the participants discussed Iraq’s current political scene. The participants reiterated the same stances of Erbil agreements that have been presented to Iraqi parties.
