
Following revelations and widespread protests during the past weeks across Iraq, the judicial branch finally admitted to cases of torture and harassment of women in Maliki’s prisons.
According to a report aired by Al-Sharqiya TV, Iraqi public prosecutor Kazem al-Taii issued a report to High Judicial Council chief Madhat Mahmoud admitting to torture being used against seven Iraqi women.
It is worth noting that despite official statements in this regard, Al-Sudani, Maliki’s human rights minister claimed there were no harassment or torture taking place in prisons.
In other news, Iraqi MP Wahda Al-Jamili from the Iraqiya Coalition called for the gates of all prisons and detention centers in Iraq be opened to human rights organizations.
