Many provinces in central and southern Iraq witnessed demonstrations for change and the fight against corruption, Al Jazeera reported on Saturday, August 15th.
Shiite religious leaders called on all three branches of the Iraqi government to take action as soon as possible to respond to the people’s demands.
Demonstrations launched a few weeks ago in Basra have spread through the provinces of Waset, Babel, Karbala and Ziqar. The peoples of these provinces are demanding corrupt figures be held accountable and an end to the sectarian rationing system.
