
Demonstrators in the town of Umm Qasr in southern Basra Province blocked the road leading to Port Umm Qasr in an act intended to increase their protest to an armed attack against a protesters’ tent in Basra, Al Jazeera TV reported.
Basra sit-in protesters threatened to launch civil disobedience if authorities do not reveal the names of the attackers. This anger reached Port Umm Qasr with protests flaring. Hundreds of protesters in the town of Umm Qasr have launched unlimited sit-ins and blocked the port road, demanding an end to corruption, improved services and job opportunities.
These same scenes were repeated in the city of Hila. Demonstrators in this city, capital of Babel Province in central Iraq, protested attacks by masked militants and anti-riot units. Their rally was staged outside government offices and the demonstrators were demanding an investigation and the resignation of the Babel governor and local government officials.
