Iraq: PUK senior official says Maliki is forcing Kurds to leave Baghdad

Barham Saleh, Deputy Secretary General of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in Iraq said part of the problems between Maliki and the Kurdistan Regional Government is his efforts focused on forcing the Kurds to leave Baghdad, Iraq’s NINA news agency reported on Thursday.
Maliki’s government is provoking the crises for us to depart Baghdad in their favor, he said, adding Kurdish political parties must place their efforts to strengthen their political and administrative presence in Baghdad.
“In this phase, a united stance and opinion between all relevant parties is very necessary,” Saleh added regarding the position of the PUK and the Kurdistan Democratic Party in the face of the crisis between Baghdad and KRG.
The meeting between KRG President Massud Barzani and Iraqi President Jalal Talabani was important considering its timing and the issues discussed, adding these two officials share one position on Kurdish region unity and protection.
